To new Christians on JWN
by brotherdan ini wanted to make a few comments to those of you that have recently begun to question or have already left the wt and made their way onto this site.
this site is a great resource to learn how others are coping with leaving the organization and moving on into a fulfilling life.. i wanted to write this post because i think reading something like this would've been helpful to me to understand where a lot of people that comment on this site are coming from.
you are going to hear from a wide range of people that have moved on to a diverse range of beliefs.

Zombie dub, because I have researched other so-called holy books and the reasons they cannot be from God are readily apparent. Everytime I am introduced to an apparent contradiction from the Holy Bible it's ALWAYS ended up strengthening my faith instead of destroying it. Sometimes those little "contradictions" are not contradictions at all and end up being fine testaments to God. Until I can disprove the Word of God, I will not throw it out because faulty human philosophies, IMO.
Have you honestly researched other holy books in as much detail as you have the bible? I imagine you find a contradiction in the bible and go through all kinds of illogical mental gymnastics to make it fit, but if you found an apparent contradiction in something like the quaran you would immediately say "ah ha, that proves it's wrong". Just be honest with yourself. If you honestly have spent the same amount of time trying to reconcile the problems with other holy books as you have the bible, then fair play - can you honestly say this?
To me it seems you are bias and have an agenda that the bible is right and everything else is wrong. I would also guess had you been born in india or saudi arabia your bias would have been for a different holy book.
Also you didn't answer my query as to whether you were catholic, and if not why do you put faith in a catholic holy book?

Brother Dan, can i ask why is it you believe the bible is from god, but the qua ran, book of mormon etc are not? Why that holy book and not another? Also are you a catholic? If not why do you accept the catholic bible, because the 66 books you take as being from god where simply the books the catholic church picked from 100s of potentials books that could have been in there.

For Atheists & Strong Agnostics: (Believers can counter-post also!)
by UnDisfellowshipped infor atheists and strong agnostics (those who believe that we cannot know about god if he exists):.
i am posting this thread because i think it greatly help myself (and other christian believers) to better understand your beliefs and your viewpoints, if you posted a short (or long) summary of what the reasons and basis are for your not believing that there is a god, or for believing that we cannot know god if he exists.. you can include arguments against god, against the bible, against the christian interpretations of the bible, etc.. you can include scientific evidence that you believe contradicts the bible, or contradicts the existence of a god/creator/designer.. christians believers: you are welcome to post counter-arguments, or summaries for why you believe in god/creator/designer or why you believe in the bible or the christian interpretations of the bible.. i also thought it might be good to link to another lively thread we had on this website a while back: http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/beliefs/175688/1/god-morals-and-atheists.
when you include your reasons for why you don't believe in god or the bible, or why you do believe in god or the bible, please include at least a little bit of the evidence (or link to the evidence) that backs up your statement.. for example, it doesn't do much good to claim "evolution is false" and just leave it at that, or on the other hand, to say "the bible is full of scientific errors" and just leave it at that.. here are two threads i posted where i explained the reasons why i personally believe in god and the bible:.

There are no Atheists. They don’t exist.
I am an atheist. I exist. Therefore you are wrong.
It takes a bigger leap of faith to be an Ignorer of God than a Believer (regardless of spiritual orientation).
Using the same logic it takes a bigger leap of faith to be an Ignorer of Count Dracula than a Believer (regardless of spiritual orientation).

thanks.

I fell in love with my first MacBook Pro and then my 27" iMac. Between those 2 which were about 2 years apart I had a series of torrid love affairs with a Smart car and finely crafted pretentious cutlery set.

People Who Refuse to Tip at Restaurants are Embarrassing!
by White Dove inegg and i were treated out to dinner three times last weekend by out of state visiting relatives.
just found out last night that they don't believe in tipping, at all!
we suggested the places to eat and frequent those places ourselves.

And then the bill came out with an additional 10% - 15% (can't remember exactly) added on to the bill as a service charge.
Some places try this on, its very rare though. I went to an italian place that did it once. They aren't allowed to enforce this tho, if the service was bad you can just tell them to calculate it without the service charge or just pay for it minus the service charge and leave. The reason everyone you were with just paid it is because we don't like to argue or cause any kind of fuss here. Even if we are being ripped of we will go along with it and then moan a lot to our friends/family afterwards about it.
I have chatted to quite a few English people after this and I was told that Brits tip just as much as the Americans. And tipping is expected for hairdressers and other things besides wait staff. So I am seriously confused!!
Not sure who told you this but I would challenge this, it seriously isn't the norm at all. I have never heard of anyone tipping a hairdresser!
How difficult is it to add (discretionary) service onto the cost of a meal in your head, before you order or before you pay??
Fair enough. If I ever went to the states I would do this. Still seems weird to me (and most of the non USA world) though!

Can you show me that " the onus is on the believer" from the bible?
Can you show me that "the onus is not on the believer" from Peter Pan and his adventures in Never-Never Land?
